FAQs

Web Design

1. How does it all work?

  1. I ask you lots of (easy!) questions about the kind of site you want and what you will be using it for
  2. You provide me with the content or any images that you would like to use  (new or existing site)
  3. I create a mock-up of the home page and send it to you for your approval (~ 1 week)
  4. After we have agreed on the design I build the site (~ 2-6 weeks depending on site)
  5. I send you a link to a password-protected staging area online to view your website
  6. If everything looks great, we agree a date for install (~2-3 hours)

2. Do I get a blog?

Only if you want one. I build all my sites using WordPress, arguably the most powerful and flexible online publishing tool available. You will be able to update your blog whenever, and pretty much wherever you are.

3. Can you help me get a domain name?

I can register a domain for you and it will be in your name (never let an agency or freelancer register your domain in their name).

4. Can I sell on my site?

Yes, you can, and you can accept payment by any means suitable. Please contact me for an individual quote as eCommerce can vary from the simple sale of an e-book to a fully-fledged online store.

Hosting

1. How does it all work?

  1. If you are a new customer, you sit back and relax while I set up your hosting and email. I send you all the details and help you configure your email. That’s it!
  2. If you are migrating from another host, I have a step-by-step process to ensure everything moves over smoothly. Unless you are running a particularly behemoth site, there is no charge for migration.

2. Can I transfer my website hosting to you?

Yes you can. I have a lot of experience in migrating websites so you are in safe hands.

3. Will I lose any data or emails if I move?

No. I have moved inboxes with as many as 14,000 emails and not lost a single one.

4. How long does it take?

The actual process takes a maximum of 48 hours (this is called propagation). I undertake preparatory work beforehand which can usually be done in a day. If you are desperate to escape your current host I can have you moved over within a working week (schedule permitting).

Monthly Website Maintenance

1. How does it all work?

  1. Each time you need something changing you send me your requirements by email
  2. I complete the task, and let you know how much time you have remaining for the month
  3. I never go over your agreed time without your permission
  4. You can extend or decrease the time required on an ad-hoc basis, as required, up or down (half hour minimum per month)

2. What happens if I don’t use all my time?

You are charged the minimum for the month, which is £15.

3. What if I need extra time?

You can agree extra time with me and your invoice will show the additional time at the end of the month (charged in half hour blocks of £15).

4. How long does it take to get changes made?

I aim to make all changes within three working days, usually sooner.
